Ken Feinberg: the ‘Walter Cronkite’ of the BP Oil Spill

Kenneth Feinberg must be a big fan of Albert Camus. Every job he takes involves some sort of existential quality. He made his mark doling out compensation to the families of 9-11 victims, a job that entailed deciding whether or which life had more monetary value: that of a janitor or a banker? As the Obama administration’s pay czar, Feinberg spent most of last year determining what executives at bailed out banks and auto companies should be paid. “In our society, I’ve found that compensation is a surrogate for worth,’’ Feinberg said at a recent speech at the Wharton School....

15,000 attend Southern California tax revolt rally, national media silent

[excerpt] We hate the media in general, but we love afternoon talk show hosts John & Ken of KFI radio in Los Angeles. And if the media ignores their movement, we will give them a hand. The talk team drew 15,000 people last week to their “Revolt, Recall, Repeal Rally” to protest California’s $50 billion tax increase and to begin recall efforts aimed at the governor and several state legislators. it was covered locally, but did you see any national coverage? Ten NOW protestors on the on the White House steps makes news, but not 15,000 in a tax revolt?...

SoCal Tax Revolt 2009 - Fullerton, CA, 3/7/09

Tax Revolt and Recall Protest draws 15,000 Fullerton – An estimated crowd of 15,000 people showed up at a tax revolt and recall protest hosted by The John & Ken Show of radio station KFI 640. The hyperactive John Kobylt and immaculately groomed Ken Chiampou prodded the crowd into chants of "heads on a stick" and "off with their heads" several times during the three hour event, referring to lazy legislators and the lying governor. Some people brought bloody effigy heads of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and stuck them on the end of a pike, while the crowd joined their hosts...

'Foley problem' for Ohio's Strickland

A "Foley problem" at the heart of Ted Strickland's Democratic gubernatorial campaign in Ohio deepened over the weekend when an anonymous e-mailer revealed the identity of the "mystery man" in the Strickland organization who has a history of sexual misconduct involving minors going back to 1994. Bryan Specht, now age 33, was the campaign manager for Rep. Ted Strickland's 1998 congressional re-election. Specht was named as the perpetrator in the criminal records distributed in an anonymous e-mail circulated in Ohio last Friday and forwarded to this author. The anonymous e-mail apparently was sent simultaneously to several different Ohio attorneys and...

Hey, Doll, You Need a Real Man

YOU CAN DRESS him up any way you want. Change his appearance to make him look like Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp or even John Wayne. Tough boy, homeboy, cowboy. It doesn't matter. Ken is still a castrated man. Ken has always lived in the shadow of the venerable girl next door. He is an afterthought, known for nothing but being a mere accessory, sold separately. Mattel is trying to bring him back after a hiatus, but with a lobotomized grin and submissive gaze, he is the epitome of role reversal. While Barbie has been a regular career gal with a...

Livingstone compares poll tax riots to China massacre By Richard Spencer in Beijing (Filed: 10/04/2006) Ken Livingstone began a tour of China yesterday by comparing the Tiananmen Square massacre to London's 1990 poll tax riot. Ken Livingstone said he was considering a countdown clock like Beijing's but was uncertain where to put it Looking out over the Beijing square from the steps of the National Museum of Revolutionary History, the Mayor of London said the 1989 massacre, in which -hundreds of protesters died, was part of the city's "interesting history", like London's. Former legislator gets into statehouse race

Ken Chlouber still runs in Leadville 100 trail race, races burros and rides bulls... The siren song of politics keeps calling Ken Chlouber. "I'm not good at doing nothing," he said, although promoting an ultra-marathon, running in burro races and riding bulls and motorcycles hardly qualifies as "nothing." The Leadville Republican was supposed to be through with politics after the 2002 session of the Colorado Legislature, thanks to term limits. After four years away from the state house, though, Chlouber has decided to run for the seat in the Colorado House of Representatives now held by Breckenridge Democrat Gary Lindstrom....

Ken gets a makeover, hopes to win back Barbie

NEW YORK (Reuters) - He's been to the gym, looks buff and stylish, and now Barbie's boy toy Ken wants to win back the doll he split from two years ago. After a two-year separation, Mattel Inc. said on Thursday that Barbie's long-time suitor wants to rekindle his decades-long romance with his plastic paramour. Mattel is hoping Ken's return to retail stores can also revitalise the company's overall fortunes. In January, the company blamed sagging Barbie sales for sagging profits. "Ken has revamped his life -- mind, body and soul," Hollywood stylist and Mattel consultant Phillip Bloch said in a...

Invalid Rule Spares Former Prosecutors from Discipline

The disciplinary arm of the N.C. State Bar dropped charges of felonious misconduct against two former Union County prosecutors Friday because of a 1999 clerical error at the state Supreme Court. The State Bar had charged Kenneth Honeycutt and Scott Brewer with lying, cheating and withholding evidence in a 1996 death penalty case. The ruling Friday marks the second time that Honeycutt and Brewer won on procedural grounds before the bar's Disciplinary Hearing Commission, which sits as judge and jury in disciplinary cases. . . . Prosecutors around the state are concerned that the case is damaging their reputation and...

Researchers Find Barbie Is Often Mutilated

LONDON - Barbie, beware. The iconic plastic doll is often mutilated at the hands of young girls, according to research published Monday by British academics. "The girls we spoke to see Barbie torture as a legitimate play activity, and see the torture as a 'cool' activity," said Agnes Nairn, one of the University of Bath researchers. "The types of mutilation are varied and creative, and range from removing the hair to decapitation, burning, breaking and even microwaving." Mattel U.K. said that despite the findings of "this very small group of children, we know that there are millions of girls in...

District clerk withdraws bid to buy pens

Latonia Wilson says she was only trying to do something nice for jurors. “I just thought it would be fun,” she said. “Especially at Christmastime.” Ken Clark, though, thought it was an obvious effort to buy campaign materials with taxpayers’ money. “I’m just amazed that she would even try it,” he said. Wilson is a Democrat who will be seeking her second term next year as district clerk. Clark is a Republican who will be seeking a third term as Precinct 4 commissioner. “Everything is going to be looked at politically,” Wilson said. “I’m not sure what the issue necessarily...

Ken, you need to ‘man up’ if you want Barbie back

This just in: Ken’s getting a makeover that he hopes will wrest Barbie away from surfer dude Blaine. You may remember that Mattel announced the break-up of America’s favorite polystyrene couple (not counting Nick and Jessica) last year. Barbie had fallen for Blaine, a hunky Aussie boogie boarder who was, well, more manly than Ken. Which is why this makeover won’t work. Ken’s stylist (ahem) has announced that his new look will be “slick and urban.” Ken, speaking through a humanoid working at Mattel, said, “My new look will be very now. It will reflect my personality and change with...

Barbie and Ken Getting Back Together?

NEW YORK (AP) - Barbie and Ken, together again? Mattel says Ken may be getting a makeover. The plastic-fantastic couple was splitsville two years ago, after a 43-year romance. But RussellArons, vice president of marketing at Mattel, says Barbie fans will see some big changes this spring. She says a makeover may be just what Ken needs to get back in the game. Mattel tried to update Barbie's image by having her split with Ken and head to a California beach. Her new main squeeze was Blaine, an Australian boogie boarder. But things didn't work out -- at least not...

I'm just not up to being polite after so many days of watching the inept, incompetent and insensitive government reaction to the deplorable conditions in Louisiana and Mississippi. Days of doctors begging for generators and fuel to keep hospital patients alive; days of people abandoned without food and water; days were thugs and criminals were allowed to gain a violent foothold in the midst of chaos and despair;...

Another Whopper Lie from CBS News

The latest story from CBS is one in which the dishonesty is on par with Dan Rather's forged document story. Earlier this week on CBS News, Gloria Borger presented a story about the GOP plans to pursue the "nuclear option" (read: constitutional option) and interviewed Ken Starr in a 20-minute sit down conversation. Ken Starr, Dean of Pepperdine Law School, was once an enemy of the left for prosecuting Bill Clinton in the Whitewater investigation. But after the CBS report this week, he has been praised by the many in the MSM and liberals for "speaking the truth about not...

Baseball, Civil War and all that jazz

BENTON HARBOR - His award-winning trilogy took Ken Burns 17 years to make, but the documentary filmmaker acknowledges that with "The Civil War," "Baseball" and "Jazz," in many ways "I have made the same film over and over again." "Each production asks one deceptively simple question: Who are we? What does an investigation of the past tell us about who we were and, more importantly, what we have become," Burns told The Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan Wednesday night at Lake Michigan College's Mendel Center. Studying civilization 2,000 years from now, it is predicted that Americans will only be remembered...

Bid on Ebay for a Republican Candidate?

The contract would run for the entire first year he is in office. I posted it here: http://www.ohioforblackwell.com/blog/archives/2005/02/20/bidding-for-candidates-on-ebay/

Claims of GI Hostage in Iraq Raises Doubt (GI Joe dolls alert)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A Web site posted a photograph of what it claimed was a kidnapped U.S. soldier, but doubts were quickly raised about its authenticity and the U.S. military said no soldiers were missing. An American toy manufacturer said the figure in the photo resembled one of its military action figures, originally produced for sale at U.S. bases in Kuwait. The statement appeared on a Web site where militants' statements are often posted and was in the name of a group that has claimed previous kidnappings, the Mujahedeen Brigades. The Arabic text, however, contained several misspellings and repetitions....
