On Wednesday, the same day President Barack Obama ousted his humiliated Afghanistan commander, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs walked into the Oval Office with more grim news: The cap on the gushing oil in the Gulf had been dislodged. What? Obama replied incredulously. Well, why did it do that? A remotely operated vehicle had knocked the cap right off, he was told, leaving oil rushing out as furiously as ever. Let me get this straight Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0610/39055.html#ixzz0s5tyasyA

Loyal to Liberty Wednesday, January 20, 2010Alan Keyes I can't help but look at Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts in the context of the larger strategy clearly being implemented by the RINO (Republican-In-Name-Only) clique that currently controls the GOP. Sean Hannity is the clique's bellwether media tool. It was no coincidence that he featured Mitt Romney on his program last night to revel in the Scott Brown victory. Scott Brown in Massachusetts is the advance guard for Mitt Romney in the White House (or vice-versa). He becomes the poster child for the RINO clique's archetypal GOP candidate who: Has no...

I hope they Mirandized this Ahmed Hashim Abed guy before they punched him.Rush Limbaugh On March 31, 2004, a small convoy guarded by four American civilian contractors was ambushed at Fallujah, Iraq, and the guards were killed. The bodies of the four Blackwater security guards were burnt, hacked, and two of the mutilated bodies were hung for display on a bridge over the Euphrates river. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that in a macabre and murderous town fete, locals cheered as one corpse was attached to a car tow rope and pulled triumphantly up and down the main road

According to Darwinian theory, in the past we had a common ancestor with baboons, further back with bananas and still further with bacteria. This dogma has spread like a meme, which is a contagious idea that propagates in a similar way as a virus by infecting brains, according to inventor of the word, Richard Dawkins.1 In 2002, Roy Britten dispelled the first monkey meme that human and chimpanzee DNA sequences are 98.5% identical.2 He showed that when indelmutations were also taken into account, the difference suddenly became about 5%. The fact that chimpanzee genomes are about 10% larger than that...

Who Is to Say Flora Don't Have Feelings? Figuring Out What Wheat Would Want ZURICH -- For years, Swiss scientists have blithely created genetically modified rice, corn and apples. But did they ever stop to consider just how humiliating such experiments may be to plants? That's a question they must now ask. Last spring, this small Alpine nation began mandating that geneticists conduct their research without trampling on a plant's dignity. [Beat Keller] Beat Keller "Unfortunately, we have to take it seriously," Beat Keller, a molecular biologist at the University of Zurich. "It's one more constraint on doing genetic research."...

Just before Hurricane Gustav blew into the Gulf as the GOP powers that be were calling off the party in Minneapolis-St. Paul, I mused about whether Republicans would come to wonder if they might be better off in the presidential race had John McCain picked a different running mate. In the wake of newly hatched Palinmania, it seemed a sacrilege to question the choice of a governor who had so excited the conservative base. Considering the excessive media tear against Palin, as opposed to the kid-gloves treatment afforded Barack Obama, it was no surprise that anyone in the media who...

NY Post jumps gun to endorse McCain The newspaper waited until October to endorse Bush in 2000 and 2004. Some say its September endorsement of presidential hopeful John McCain is just a marketing ploy. Breaking with newspaper traditionand its own past practicesthe New York Post endorsed Sen. John McCain for president on Monday, becoming the first major newspaper to enter the editorial sweepstakes that are a traditional part of the campaign season. Most editorial pages still adhere to the tradition of hearing out the candidates during the period after Labor Day, when the general public is believed to start giving...

Despite her efforts to portray herself as an average, small-town, "folksy" American, Sarah Palin's political views - ardently pro-gun, pro-censorship, antichoice and antigay - make John McCain's conservative credentials pale in comparison. What few observers have said, however, is these beliefs are not just extreme - they are radical, and even bear a comparison with some of the most notorious "rural radicals" of our time.

The UN Human Rights Council said the UK must "consider holding a referendum on the desirability or otherwise of a written constitution, preferably republican". The council has 29 members including Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Sri Lanka. It was the Sri Lankan envoy who raised concerns over the British monarchy. The resulting report said Britain should have a referendum on the monarchy and the need for a written constitution with a bill of rights.

Until I talked to Nick Bostrom, a philosopher at Oxford University, it never occurred to me that our universe might be somebody elses hobby. I hadnt imagined that the omniscient, omnipotent creator of the heavens and earth could be an advanced version of a guy who spends his weekends building model railroads or overseeing video-game worlds like the Sims. But now it seems quite possible. In fact, if you accept a pretty reasonable assumption of Dr. Bostroms, it is almost a mathematical certainty that we are living in someone elses computer simulation. This simulation would be similar to the one...

The 11-Year Old Homophobe by: Don Irvine, April 04, 2007 An 11-year old boy in England was subjected to a homophobic crime investigation by the police because he called a classmate "gay" in an e-mail. The parents of the boy who received the message complained to the police in Cheshire who then opened an investigation and sent two policemen to visit the alleged homophobe at his home. When the parents of the 11-year old boy complained that the police were being heavy handed they told the father that they considered it a very serious matter. The boy told his parents...

A substitute teacher faces up to 40 years in jail after pornographic website images were displayed to her seventh-grade students. But the conviction of 40-year-old Julie Amero - for four counts of risking injury to a child - has sparked mass outrage on the blogosphere. Amero, who worked at Kelly Middle School in the US town of Norwich, Connecticut, argued that she was the victim of adware and spyware - malicious computer code that causes pop-up advertisements to appear spontaneously. The prosecution, on the other hand, said Amero loaded the porn deliberately, and faulted her for not shutting the computer...

U.S. funeral directors are changing the gothic image of funeral homes to reflect the more positive image of death held by most baby boomers. San Antonio's Mission Park Funeral Chapels & Cemeteries chief Robert Tips told the San Antonio Express-News that as baby boomers become their primary customers, the U.S. funeral industry has shifted to a "celebrating life" mode. The boomer generation is all about convenience and service with a smile, he said. Tips said Mission Park is building five new funeral homes in San Antonio that will include facilities for weddings and banquets as well as concessions for funerals....

SynopsisIs the United States bankrupt? Many would scoff at this notion. Others would argue that financial implosion is just around the corner. This paper explores these views from both partial and general equilibrium perspectives. It concludes that countries can go broke, that the United States is going broke, that remaining open to foreign investment can help stave off bankruptcy, but that radical reform of U.S. fiscal institutions is essential to secure the nations economic future. The paper offers three policies to eliminate the nations enormous fiscal gap and avert bankruptcy: a retail sales tax, personalized Social Security, and a globally...

I am curious why none of the media covers the most important aspect of the Malvo shootings. If you look at Newspapers on the dates when the shootings are underway you discover something I find quite interesting. The shootings begin to dominate the news the day before the debate on the Iraq war starts and they catch them the day after the declaration of war??? If you ask most people "do you remember the debate about starting the second Iraq war", they will all answer "yes of course". But if you followup with the question "name one point in the...
